| Parks Week Celebrations Saturday 2nd & Sunday 3rd March 2013 I am writing to let you know about a very special weekend program of Discovery Ranger-guided activities being offered on the weekend of March 2nd and 3rd to celebrate Parks Week2013. With everything from FREE canoe creek paddles, Aboriginal bushtucker walks and two wheel trek (mountain biking) tours, through to birdwatching and yoga with breakfast in Workd Heritage rainforests, or a morning of hanging out with local Gumbaynggirr Elders learning dance, song and story…its all happening to celebrate Parks Week, and you’re all invited! So here’s what we have on offer: Saturday 2 March – the Bongil Bongil Family Fun Day, in Bongil Bongil National Park, a very easily accessed local park near Coffs Harbour. National Parks Discovery Rangers will be offering: · Two Wheel Trek (mountain bike ride) with morning tea, · Guided Canoe paddling on Bonville Creek, · Aboriginal bushtucker walks and WilderQuest kids games, as well as, · Morning tea pastries. And here’s the thing: they’re all FREE. The day goes from 10am to 2pm and we invite you to stay for a cheap BBQ lunch between 11.30am and 2pm, provided by our local WIRES members. Sunday 3 March - at Dorrigo National Park you have the choice to launch out of bed early and either:
Afterwards enjoy a healthy breakfast at the Canopy Café. At just $10 (including breakfast) these opportunities will book out fast. Also on Sunday 3 March; if getting a deeper appreciation for local Aboriginal Culture is more your thing, then get down to award winning Muttonbird Island Outdoor Education and Cultural space to help Celebrate Culture with Gumbaynggirr Elders and our highly talented Aboriginal Discovery Ranger Mark Flanders. This free event runs between 10am and 2pm and will showcase Gumbaynggirr culture through the Elders singing, poetry, dance and story telling, including hands-on workshops. Gourmet bushtucker food will also be available for purchase on the day. AND…also on Sunday 3 March: Yoga in the Park – a tranquil morning of yoga set in the lush sub-tropical rainforest of Woolgoogla Creek, in Sherwood Nature Reserve (5 mins west of Woolgoolga). This FREE event starts at 7.30am and goes through to 9am. Rated as “easy” the event is open to all ages and levels of experience. Bookings are required for the Bongil Bongil Two Wheel Trek tour, Breakfast with the Birds walk and Yoga in the Rainforest.
